James West Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones Funeral Chapel Inc on Jan. 5, 2026.
James Aubrey West, affectionately known as Aurb to his friends and family, passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 89. He left this world peacefully at his residence in Morgantown, Kentucky, leaving behind a legacy of love, humor, and wisdom. Aubrey was born on July 10, 1936, in Butler County, Kentucky, to the late Wyatt and Roda Burden West.
In his life, Aubrey was a pillar of strength and joy for his family. He is survived by his adoring children: Cassie West of Morgantown, KY, Donald West (Kim) of Louisville, KY, and Dana West (Louie) of Louisville, KY. Aubrey was a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren who will carry forward his stories and laughter. He will also be deeply missed by his best buddy, Matt Hunt, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Aubrey was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alma Brooks West, his two sons, Terry and Dean West, and his eight siblings.
Aubrey retired as a maintenance foreman from Brown and Williamson in Louisville, KY where he was well respected for his commitment and hard work. His colleagues remember him as a man who brought both wisdom and humor to every situation.
A man of diverse interests, he was known for his passion for story-telling, a hobby that endeared him to both young and old. Aubrey possessed a keen interest in politics, providing thoughtful and often spirited discourse on the matters of the day. When it came to entertainment, there was nothing he loved more than settling down to watch an old western, reliving the tales of the wild frontier.
People who knew Aubrey would describe him as the kind of person who never met a stranger. He approached life with a friendly demeanor that instantly put others at ease. His sheer presence could light up a room and his wise words often provided comfort and guidance to those around him.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. All services are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s PL. Memphis. TN 38105. I'm so sad to here the passing of Great Uncle Aubrey. We come from a family who loved to laugh and were great story tellers. The memories of us all being together and listening to my grandmother, Marie with her siblings telling stories of days long ago. There was never a time when we didn't hear laughter from them all. I often wonder if they had a competition who was the one who could laugh the loudest.
Rest easy Grest Uncle Aubrey!
Love you always,
Cindy (Betty's daughter)

Aubrey was one of a kind .
That whole family was a gem in a dark world.
Mammie , Pappie ,Marie , Evelyn, Ruben, Aubrey were my family and even as a child I knew I came from good people.
The sence of humor ,the stories they told , the joy and love you felt in their presence has stayed with me for a lifetime .
I'll pass some of them on to my children and grandchildren .
I'll always love Aubrey and my family
Prayers for his family
And I hope all the good memories flood your sadness with love and comfort in the coming day's
Love you Mike

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I meet Aubrey 12 years ago and I enjoyed every visit he made to my office and we talked more hours than I worked most days. I have missed him tremendously over the last year and I am sorry to know he is gone. Every story and conversation will stay treasured.
