James A. West, Sr., born on June 4, 1938, in Manhattan, New York, passed away on November 26, 2024, in West Islip, New York. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather whose legacy will endure through the love he shared with his family and friends.
A proud High School Graduate, James served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957, embodying the spirit of responsibility and dedication that characterized his life. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career as a Jet Engine Mechanic for Pan American Airlines in Queens, NY, New York, where he contributed his skills and expertise to the aviation industry, leaving a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine L. West, and their four children: Jerard A. West (Kristy), Mary Ellen Abrams, James A. West, Jr, (Dawn) and John A. West (Jennifer). Cherished grandfather of Jared, Arthur, Anna, John, Nicholas, Andrew, Emily, and James. They cherished their time together, and the joyful memories created throughout their lives. James's family was his pride and joy, and he often expressed his affection in countless ways, reflecting his deep love and commitment.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur West and mother Lillian (Delgado) West and his son-in-law, Gary Abrams, and his brother Arthur. The influence of these loved ones was felt throughout his life, and their memory remained close to his heart.
Visitation services will be held at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead, NY, on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, and will continue later that evening from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. A Mass celebrating James's life will occur on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Saint John the Evangelist R C Church in Riverhead, NY.
James A. West, Sr. will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family and his contributions to his community as a skilled mechanic and service member. He touched the lives of many, and the warmth of his spirit will be missed dearly.
