James Wetzel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel on Aug. 10, 2024.
James Paul Wetzel, age 79 of Marion, passed away Tuesday, August, 6, 2024 at the Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
Jim was born November 13, 1944 in Delaware, the son of Clarence Harry and Marguerite Elizabeth (Thomas) Wetzel. He grew up on a farm learning the value of hard work. He was a graduate of Claridon High School in the class of 1962 and received his Bachelor degree from Bowling Green State University in 1966.
Jim proudly served his country during the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army. Upon his arrival home he was united in marriage to his soulmate, Janice Lynn Hawkins on November 15, 1969, a true love story lasting over 55 years.
Jim's impressive career spanned decades in the automotive industry, with nearly 30 years at the General Motors Corporation serving as a Quality Engineer. In retirement, he worked with Oxford Automotive out of Michigan until 2009. His sought-after expertise took him to several countries all across the world. In his travels he immersed himself in the culture and enjoyed all the countries had to offer.
Jim was a man who was larger than life and lived it to the fullest. People where naturally drawn to him and it only took a few minutes to feel as though you'd known him your entire life. Jim had a deep love and passion for motorcycles. The freedom of the open road brought him such joy and contentment. He and Jan traveled to all 50 states reveling in the beauty this country has to offer. He attended countless bike rallies, always looking forward to the next ride. In the winter, he and Jan enjoyed the warmth of Florida. In retirement, Jim enjoyed his morning routine of going to the YMCA; then there were the camping trips, boating, skiing and casting a line waiting for the fish to bite. In the evening there was most certainly a glass of bourbon to be enjoyed with family and friends. Jim had a deep and abiding faith which brought him peace knowing his eternal home is in Heaven. He was a member of the Olde Corner Church and a faithful volunteer for Leapin Outreach Center.
His sustaining source of pride was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Janice Lynn Wetzel; children: Scott Wetzel, Andrea (Chuck) Myers and Craig (Emily) Wetzel; grandchildren: Danielle, Joshua, Tyler, Colton (Stephanie), Jared, Gage (Liz), and Garrett; great-grandchildren: Luna, Elijah, Lyric, and Lincoln, siblings: Linda (Don) Masters, Steve (Linda) Wetzel, Tim (the late Nancy) Wetzel, and Scott (Tami) Wetzel; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats, Mollie and Ellie.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel, 360 East Center Street, Marion from 3PM to 5PM; funeral service will immediately follow at 5PM with Pastor Regan Hensel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leapin Outreach Center, 150 Court St, Marion, OH 43302.

My uncle Jim was one of the kindest people I've known. A wealth of knowledge in multiple areas. He was also a great story teller. I will miss never hearing tales of his adventures again.

So sorry to hear about Jim. He'll be missed. He came to the Veterans breakfast at the American Legion 584. I'll miss him not being there for breakfast
