Obituary of James Bingham White
James B. White, 93, passed away April 17, 2024.
Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church, 1000 Penn St., Fort Worth, Texas.
Jim enjoyed a long, full life. He grew up in Brownwood, Texas, son of James C. and Mattie White. He attended Brownwood High School, then TCU, and earned his medical degree from Southwestern Medical School. After marrying his bride Bettye and serving in the U.S. Army, the growing family made their home in Fort Worth. He worked as a pathologist at Harris Hospital, then at St. Joseph Hospital, where he served as Chief of Pathology.
Jim was quite active in the Presbyterian church his entire life, from confirmation on, including serving as a Ruling Elder. He was a member of many presbytery committees, including the Committee on Ministry. He chaired the coordinating committee that united presbyteries in central and north Texas into Grace Presbytery. He served as General Assembly Commissioner in the old U.S. church in 1967-68 as they endeavored to successfully create union Presbyteries, a precursor to reunion in 1983.
Throughout his life, Jim gained many dear friends. He loved and cherished his family and friends. He was proud to see his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and prosper. His humble, kind, no-nonsense approach to life was grounding, and his sometimes quirky sense of humor kept folks laughing. In his off time, He loved to watch sports - all types of sports - especially if the TCU Frogs were playing.
Jim is predeceased by his wife Bettye and son Steven. He is survived by his son Jim (Emily), son Michael (Carol), daughter Linda; grandchildren Chris (Sarah), Lauren (Matthew), and Dimitri; and great-grandchildren Jack, Mason, and Caroline.
A special thank you goes out to all of the staff at Trinity Terrace, where Jim thrived for the past 16 years.
