James (Jimmy) Walter Whitlow, 70, of Oak Hill, passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Bowers Hospice House, Beckley following a long illness.
Born November 3, 1954, in Weirwood, WV, he was the son of the late Claude and Mildred Whitlow.
Jimmy was employed for 17 years at Tidewater Mine Supply where he was a Truck Driver and Warehouse Manager. He served in the U. S. Army for four years and was a member of the American Legion Post 149 for 24 years. He held many positions as the Advisor, Legion Commander, and bingo caller which he did every Saturday night for 24 years.
He never met a stranger and was the first to help anyone in need. His world revolved around his grandchildren and family.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Megan Whitlow; three brothers, Kerry, Danny, and Arnold Whitlow; and three sisters, Audrey Painter, Mona Cook, and Lois Jean Norris.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 49 years, Cindy Whitlow; three sons, James K. Whitlow (Crystal), Greg Whitlow (Ashleigh), Michael Whitlow (Abby), and his nephew, Matt Harvey (Neely) who was like his son; grandchildren, Hannah Stines (Anthony), Kaylee Manley (Brian), Bayleigh Whitlow, Aiden Whitlow, Addie Whitlow, Levi Whitlow, Harper Whitlow; and one great grandchild, Elijah Stines; sisters, Janet McClintock, Donna Suttle (Jerry), Janice Brown, Tonia Arthur, Cindy Lambert (Tony), Bertha Blankenship, and Martha Whitlow.
Services will be 1:00 P.M., Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Pastor Jerry Lawrence and Quincy Burgess officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Sunday at the funeral home.
In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated following the service.
