James Williams Obituary

James Wesley Williams, 81, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on November 3, 2025. James was born on January 6, 1944, in Eagletown, Oklahoma, to Wesley and LaVada (Hadley) Williams.

He was a proud 1962 graduate of Eagletown High School. After which, he served his country honorably in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Following his service he earned a degree at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. His work took him outside his degree field, as he worked various forestry jobs as a subcontractor for Weyerhaeuser, and even spent some time building cabinets.

One could say that his most valuable work, alongside his wife, Linda, was raising their three sons. Through countless hours spent on ballfields and time spent together, his sons grew to understand the value of hard work, of laughter, of randomly bursting into song, and of loving your family well. He lived most of his life in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, before moving to Guthrie in 2014. His reason for doing so, to be closer to his grandkids. While he loved his boys, one might say it was his grandkids that put joy in his heart. They spent time together in his beautiful garden, went on rides in the truck, played lots of cards, and watched OU Football together. And, as the grandkids were old enough, he followed them to the ballfields and events as long as he was physically able to do so.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda (Poindexter) Williams; three sons, Brian and wife, Caeli of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Bruce and wife, Mandi of Perkins, Oklahoma, and Kelly and partner, Catie Grubbs of Driggs, Idaho; and seven grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

James is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Carol Morphew and Shirley Laster; and one brother, Doug Williams.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 10, 2025 at Summit View Cemetery located at 1808 North Pine Street in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, 220 North 1st Street, Guthrie, Oklahoma 73044.
