James Martin Wilson, 62, of Sussex Courthouse, passed away peacefully January 21, 2025. Jim was predeceased by his parents Willie Earle and Mary Martin Wilson and brother-in-law Onnie Woodruff.
Jim was a 1981 graduate of Tidewater Academy where he excelled in athletics including basketball and baseball and was recognized for his athletic abilities. He served as a Greens Keeper at Emporia Country Club and Prince George Country Club. He enjoyed the game of golf and garnered many awards during his playing years. Jim was a member of Readville Baptist Church.
Jim is survived by sister Brenda W. Woodruff, brothers David Wilson (Becky), Tommy Wilson, (Belynda), and sister Loretta W. Hellyer (Jesse); nephews Ken Woodruff, Trent Wilson, Quinton and Martin Hellyer, and niece Lisa Matthews; six great nieces, 2 great nephews, one great-great nephew, and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 1 at 11:00 at Readville Baptist Church, Sussex with Rev. Fred Adkins officiating. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be private.
Memorial donations may be made to Sussex Courthouse Fire Department (P. O. Box 1363, Sussex, VA 23884) or Readville Baptist Church (11093 Dove Lane, Stony Creek, VA 23882).
