Mr. James Merton Witt, age 84, of Unionville, TN, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Funeral services will be 7 PM Wednesday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel, Shelbyville, TN.
A private visitation will be from 4 PM until 5 PM Wednesday.
A public visitation will be from 5 pm until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Witt was born February 18, 1941, in Berwyn, Illinois, to the late Robert and Charlotte Dunning Witt.
He worked for many years in the communication industry as a supervisor with AT&T. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and old cars. He worshiped at St. Williams Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Barry James David Irvine, and in laws, Henry and Leona Hatch.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann (Hatch) Witt, his brother Robert (Deana) Witt of Longs, SC and his sister Kathy (Ron) King of Flora, IL.; Three children, Margaret (Christian) Irvine-Pawola, of Murfreesboro, TN; Jeffrey (Tammy) Witt, of Maryville, TN; Barbara (Tim) Moore of Lawrenceville, GA. Twelve grandchildren: Jacob Irvine, Joel Irvine, Maddie Pawola-Reed, Christian Pawola, Jr., Bradford (Brianna) Witt, Charlotte (Cullin) Trahan, Alexandria Flanagan, Corina Flanagan, Alexander (Brenna) Moore, Curtis Moore, and Nicholas (Mariah) Moore. Five great-grandchildren: Amelia Moore, Reid Moore, Faith Witt, Cruz Witt, and Oliver Witt.
The family would like to thank Hospice Compassus for their ongoing care over the last four years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Russell Rescue Tennessee or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
