James Wormer Obituary
James E. "Worm" Van Wormer, 66, of Riverside Drive in Oil City, died at UPMC Northwest in Seneca on Monday evening, March 11, 2024, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Oil City on January 9, 1958 to the late Robert B. and Donna L. (Shaner) Van Wormer.
He attended Oil City High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from April 1977 through August 1980.
Above all, he loved being with his family and taking care of his wife. Worm loved many types of music, and enjoyed playing basketball when he was younger.
He was employed through the years as a truck driver for McKissick Trucking based in Venus and also as a roofer for Homan Specialty Roofing in Oil City.
He was married in Oil City on September 28, 2013 to the former Dawn E. (Firster), and she survives. Also surviving are his children: Heather D. Jeffcoat of South Carolina, and Jessica DeLoe and Jennifer DeLoe, both of Clarion; his grandchildren: Anastasia, Peter Jr., Julian, Helena, Summer, and Brooklyn; and one great-granddaughter, Keleesia.
Also surviving are his siblings: John Van Wormer and his wife Janet, Donna Porter and her husband Robert, Linda Runninger and her husband Roger, Rick Van Wormer, Rozella Van Wormer, Terri Van Wormer, and Shirley DeLoe; a sister-in-law, Jamie Van Wormer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Merle Van Wormer; a sister, Debra Edwards and her husband Duke; two brothers-in-law, Roger Gourley and Terry DeLoe; and a nephew, Michael Runninger.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public visitation or service held. A Celebration of his Life will be held by his family later this summer.
Memorial donations may be made to the Venango County V.A. Clinic, 125 Home Depot Drive, Franklin, PA 16323.
