James Edward Yanish, age 85, of River Falls, WI, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 4, 2025, at Kinnic Health and Rehab. He was born on May 13, 1939, to Edward and Rochelle (Rock) Yanish in River Falls, WI. James graduated from River Falls High School with the class of 1957. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves.
On May 12, 1962, James married the love of his life, Kathleen, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Stillwater, MN. Together, they were blessed with four children: Jeannine, Lynette, Cathy, and Jim.
Jim dedicated 40 years of his life to 3M, starting in production before transitioning to plant engineering. Throughout his career, he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
A passionate family man, Jim loved any occasion that brought his loved ones together. He had a special fondness for celebrating with family and treasured the moments shared with them. Jim was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and he enjoyed playing euchre. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he always took great pride in their achievements and happiness.
Jim had a heart of gold and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Whether mowing a neighbor's lawn, clearing snow, or assisting a stranger in need, his kindness knew no bounds. Raised on a farm, he developed a strong work ethic from a young age, continuing to help with farm work even while working at 3M. James also had a love for the outdoors, often spending time camping on Big Lake. His passion for miniature tractor collecting was another one of his many hobbies.
Jim attended school through the 8th grade at a one-room schoolhouse before continuing his education at River Falls High School. He was a proud member of his community and always eager to support others.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Kathleen; children: Jeannine (Brad) Olson, Lynette (Jim) Richards, Cathy (Dave) Hults, and Jim (Holly) Yanish; grandchildren: Rachel (Oliver Warner) Olson, David (Helena) Yanish, Michael Richards, Hailey Hults, Molly (Lee) Clyne, and David (Mariah Churchill) Hults; and his sister, Rita Eldred. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, DeWayne Eldred.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at St. Bridget Catholic Church: 211 E. Division St., River Falls, WI 54022.
