Jamie (Francis James) Freise
March 12, 1976 - September 30, 2025
A witty, fun-loving and adventurous soul, Jamie was an engaging and supportive force for his Columbus and Des Moines family & friends. Born in Killeen, Texas, Jamie spent a few years as a child in Wurzburg, Germany where his dad was stationed before moving to Des Moines, Iowa. After college, Jamie moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he was a dedicated city planner for the City of Columbus for over 20 years. He has positively shaped the city he loved so much, and left an indelible imprint on the cityscape and on the hearts of those who knew him.
An avid skiier, he has mastered the slopes of many mountains in the U.S. and Canada, and as far as Valle Navado, Chile. Passionate about any type of trivia, his knowledge of all subjects seemed neverending. Movie quotes, sports, politics, music, comedy, history...Jamie always knew the answer! As a graduate of Iowa State, he was a life-long Cyclones fan, but his #1 team was the Chicago Cubs, with Wrigley Field being one of his favorite places.
A dependable friend to all, Jamie's memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him: Partner, Amy Hargus; Family & blended family: Meghan Freise, Michael Freise, Rylee Freise, Murphy Freise, Henry Smith, Ave Lindon, Edie Freise (Joe Butler, Pete Butler, Keith Butler and their families). He is preceded in death by his parents, Kent Freise and Marie Lindon.
His City of Columbus coworkers will plant a tree in his honor at the Franklin Park Conservatory. A celebration of life ceremony will be held in Columbus and in Des Moines at a later date.

I worked with Jamie for over 20 years as a Sign Consultant for numerous sign companies in the Columbus Market. He was always professional and courteous. I will miss his friendship and relationship. Rest in Peace my friend, May God Bless his family. God is close to the brokenhearted. Stan Young
