Jamie Gronning

Jamie Hilker Gronning passed away on September 7, 2024 at the age of 80. He was born in Englewood, New Jersey, and then raised in Elkton, Virginia. After graduating from the College Of William & Mary in 1966, where he was in the ROTC program and a very accomplished member of the track team, Jamie began his service in the United States Marine Corps. He was trained as a Marine A-6 Intruder pilot and honorably served his country in Vietnam in 1968 – 1969. He achieved the rank of captain and was awarded the Air Medal multiple times for his service during combat. Jamie's professional career was primarily focused on real estate and finance. His most recent position was as Executive Vice President of Regal Bank where he headed up their commercial lending department, before retiring in 2016. Jamie loved to travel and was fortunate enough to often do so throughout his lifetime. He was also an avid reader and mostly enjoyed reading mystery novels. He is survived by his wife, Amy Gardner Whiteley, his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Gronning and Jennifer Marx Gronning, his son and daughter-in-law, Eric Gronning and Lori Robertson, and his 2 grandchildren, Jacqueline Gronning Doddy and Colin Gronning. He is also survived by his siblings, William Gronning, Kristin Gronning Farmer and Miranda Gronning Hopkins. He is pre-deceased by his late son Joel Gronning. The public is invited to a Celebration Of Life luncheon on Saturday October 5th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Sheraton Baltimore North, located at 903 Dulaney Valley Rd. Towson, MD 21204. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Jamie's favorite charity, the Tunnel To Towers Foundation. There will be a private interment at Arlington National Cemetery, at a future date.
