Jan Crockett of Lubbock passed from this life into the waiting arms of Jesus on June 18, 2024. She was at home, surrounded by her husband of over 59 years, Bob, and other close family members.

Jan was born June 23, 1945, in Abilene Texas to the late Clifford N. “Buck” Kornegay and Marion (Smith) Kornegay. She grew up in Winters, Texas before moving to El Paso, where she graduated from Bel Air High School in 1963. She attended Abilene Christian College and UTEP, after which she focused her energies on raising her family and being very active at her sons’ school and church. She returned to school and graduated summa cum laude in 1987 from Texas Tech with a BS degree in Education, specializing in teaching young children.

Jan loved children and loved teaching them, especially Pre-K and Kindergarten kids. She began teaching children’s Bible classes at the age of 13 and taught almost continuously for the next 60 years, including 30 years at Sunset Church of Christ. One of her greatest joys was to have taught her three sons and three of her grandchildren. She organized and directed preschool programs in El Paso and at Sunset Church of Christ for a total of eight years. She also taught Kindergarten and 1st grade at Lubbock Christian School from 1986 to 1995.

Jan was a faithful Christian, a wonderful homemaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was very hospitable and loved planning parties, events, and hosting friends and family. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She loved puzzles and games and was very competitive at 42 and bridge. Jan was a leader and a servant in many different areas including serving for years with the LCU Associates and the ladies ministry at Sunset Church of Christ. She was kind, gentle, and considerate and had many, many friends.

She will be greatly missed by her friends and family, especially her husband, Bob of Lubbock; three sons: Cliff Crockett and his wife Karen of Sunnyvale, Kevin Crockett and his wife Jenny of Lubbock, and Steve Crockett and his wife Kathy of Lubbock; her grandchildren: Daniel Crockett and his wife Alexa, Katie Crockett and fiancée Gary Vetrone, Calley Graves and her husband Heston, Ben Crockett, Maddy Crockett, McKenzie Crockett and Carrigan Crockett; her great-grandchildren: Lennon Crockett, Woods Crockett, and one almost here, Zoe Graves. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Karen Ludwick.

A visitation for Jan will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday evening, June 25, 2024, at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway in Lubbock, next to Combest Family Funeral Home, where family will be receiving friends. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in the auditorium of Sunset Church of Christ, 3723 34th Street in Lubbock. A private burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.

Pallbearers will be Cliff Crockett, Kevin Crockett, Steve Crockett, Daniel Crockett, Ben Crockett and Heston Graves.
