Jan Kara Everest, 71, of Wausau, passed away February 15, 2025, at Wood Aven, Wausau.
Jan was born November 9, 1953, in Wausau, to the late D.C. Everest, Jr. and Elaine (Nelson) Everest. Jan is the granddaughter of D.C Everest. She worked at Northern Valley Workshop and met a lot of friends at adult day services through NCHC and ADS. She loved cowboys, shopping, garage sales, coffee, collecting dolls and purses, jewelry, records, crocheting, and collecting CD's- even if it wasn't to listen to them. She had a special place in her heart for George Strait, Alan Jackson and Kenny Chesney. Years ago, Jan was also an active member of the Special Olympics. Jan holds a very special place in all of our hearts and she will be deeply missed.
Jan is survived by her brother, David Clark Everest; caretaker and trusted friend, Heather Busko; guardian and beloved friend Pam Welch; former roommates and friends; and staff who became her family- especially Rachel Miller.
She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and former nanny and guardian, Jean Erickson.
A celebration of Jan's life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Brainard Funeral Home- WAUSAU Chapel, 522 Adams Street, Wausau. Rev. Joy Nelson-Jeffers will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the services, catered by Willow Springs. She will be laid to rest at a later date in the Everest Family Mausoleum at Pine Grove Cemetery.
We wish to thank everyone at Jelinek who cared for and befriended Jan. And thank you to Heather and Pam for their unwavering care and support of Jan and all her past caretakers who always held a special place in Jan's heart.
