Janis "Mimi Jan" Pruitt Johnson, 83, passed away surrounded by family on February 19, 2025, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Born on August 19, 1941, in Dallas, Texas, she lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication to her family and community.

Jan graduated from Richardson High School before earning her degree from Texas Women's University in 1963. She quickly embarked on a lifelong career as an elementary educator and literary specialist, dedicating over 35 years to shaping young minds. Her creativity shone through in the classroom, where she inspired countless students with her passion for learning.

Beyond her professional life, Jan was deeply devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Morgan Pruitt and Wynna Lee Dyer Pruitt. She is survived by her brother, Bill Pruitt and his wife Gayle of Fort Worth, Texas; her children, Matthew and his wife Karla Johnson of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Rod and his wife Kelley Johnson of Keller, Texas, and Leslie and her husband Mark Yoo of Houston, Texas. She was a beloved Mimi to six grandchildren: Kye and Alaina Johnson; Ellie and Grace Johnson; and Molly and Lila Yoo.

Jan found immense joy in loving on her grandchildren, baking and cooking for those around her, quilting, gardening, and traveling. Her warmth extended beyond family—she was a friend to all who knew her. A consummate encourager, she had a gift for affirming others with kindness and unwavering support.

Faith played a central role in Jan’s life. She not only attended but actively participated in the ministry focus of every church family she was part of. She served in children’s and youth ministries at First Baptist Church in Conroe; First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster; and Community of Faith in Houston. Her dedication to service reflected the deep love she carried for others.

A memorial service will be held on March 3, 2025, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Visitation with the family will take place from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.

Above all else, Jan was a devoted grandmother—her greatest joy was being "Mimi" to her six grandchildren. She embodied love in its purest form and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.
