Jan E. (Crannell) Payne, age 79, of Meadville, went home on Monday afternoon, February 2, 2026, in her residence.
She was born September 30, 1947, the daughter of Malcom and Ruth Johnston Crannell.
She married Charles D. Payne on July 3, 1965. Even though the marriage only lasted 12 years, they had two children: Devone (Scott) Pepple of Titusville and Theodore (Ted) Payne of Meadville.
Jan graduated from Saegertown High School in 1965. She enjoyed being the class information secretary for class reunions and class luncheons. She stated that she never worked at a job that she did not enjoy. She retired from Greenleaf Corporation, Saegertown. She delivered the Meadville Tribune for 20 years and worked at various other part time jobs while raising her children.
She dearly loved her 5 granddaughters and their families, Aimee (Mike) Hillard and children John, Ryan and Leia of Warren, PA. Nicole (Steve) Fontaine of Charlotte, North Carolina, Amanda (Mac) McCutcheon and children Makenzie and Kieran of Harrisville, Pa, Erika Payne and daughter Kylie Payne-Copeland of Conneaut Lake, PA, Autumn (Justin) East and children Jaxon and Mason of Cranesville, PA.
Jan is survived by two brothers and their families, Daniel (Patricia)Crannell of Northeast, PA and daughters Dana Crannell and Selena (Kim) Cowger and their children, Brett (Ruth) Crannell of Sumpter, SC and daughters Kara Crannell and Laura Binninger and their children.
She also leaves behind many friends, of whom three were very special: Sandra Belknap, Linda Danko, and Connie Kerchin. They provided her with fun and laughter for over 45 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sally Ann Crannell.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jason Brown and his team at the Yolando Barco Cancer Center and Dr. Suprys in Linesville for their care during her illness.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 1 PM- 4 PM in ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY INC., 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday February 9, 2026, at St. Agatha’s Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, with Father Jeff Lucas, as celebrant.
Jan will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Because You Care, 6041 W. Rd., McKean, PA 16426, a non-kill animal shelter, to which she left her beloved pets, Boober and Tigger, or The Epiphany of the Lord Parish, 353 Pine St., Meadville, PA 16335.
