Jane Irby Gillespie, 74, of Norwood, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Edwards Funeral Home chapel. Rev. David Shankle will officiate and interment will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gillespie was born on January 5, 1950 in Gretna, Virginia to the late Carlton Ray and Maxine Burkes Irby. She worked as a receptionist with Stanly County Social Services and was a faithful member of Norwood Church of God. Her walk with the Lord was always a priority. She wanted more than anything to be a light to others. If she saw a need, then she tried to help those in need. She truly lived her life as an example. Before she got sick she loved shopping, lunch out with friends, reading and crafting. Her biggest pride and joy, though, was her granddaughter, Sydney Faith.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Wright.
She is survived by her husband, John Gillespie; daughter, Sherrie Wood (Michael); granddaughter: Sydney Faith Ellenburg; brothers: Ray Irby, Wayne Irby, and James Irby; and sister: Gail Brooks.
