Jane Foy Gowans
February 12, 1948 – July 15, 2025
Jane Foy Gowans, 77, of Pottsboro, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, surrounded by those she loved.
Born in Northern Ireland on February 12, 1948, to parents Thomas and Annie Foy, Jane spent her early years in the lush countryside of her homeland. She later moved to the United States following her marriage to her first husband, Billy Miller. On July 28, 2000, she married the love of her life, Bill Gowans, in Las Vegas, beginning a joyful chapter filled with love, family, and meaningful memories.
Jane earned her bachelor's degree in education from Texas Woman's University and went on to shape countless young lives as a dedicated teacher. She retired from Gainesville ISD after an inspiring 30-year career.
A nurturing soul, Jane found happiness in life's simple pleasures-reading a good book, knitting by the window, watching hummingbirds, feeding the animals on her property, and listening to Chris Stapleton. She had a heart full of love and always made sure her grandchildren and family were well-fed, cooking their favorite dishes with care and joy. Deeply spiritual, Jane brought peace and warmth wherever she went.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Gowans of Pottsboro, Texas; children Steven Miller of Oklahoma City; Julie Burnett Rader and husband Jeff of Dallas, Texas; Jennifer Miller of Little Elm, Texas; Bill Gowans and wife Amy of Chicago, Illinois; Bob Gowans and wife Andrea of Pottsboro, Texas; and Cheryl Koenig and husband Herb of San Marcos, Texas.
Cherished grandchildren include Ryan Burnett and wife Maggie, Owen Miller, Amanda Umaña and husband Marcelo, Bill Gowans, Hugh Gowans, Lauren Gowans, Leo Gowans, Wyatt Barnett, and Aubrey Barnett. She also leaves behind two special people she loved as her own-Penny Ticknor and Brett Miller-as well as Gwyn, Gabe, Gavin, and Zoë Parsons, and their parents, Lynett and David Parsons, who held a very special place in her heart.
Jane is also survived by her siblings in Ireland-two brothers and two sisters-along with nine nieces and nephews and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Pam Miller, and brother-in-law Larry Miller.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 401 W Woodard Street in Denison, Texas, on Friday, July 25th at 10:00 AM.
