Jane Haubner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mystic Funeral Home on Oct. 16, 2025.
Jane Marguerite Haubner (Moore) 76, passed peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday October 14, 2025.

Born in Cleveland Ohio in 1949, Jane endured a life of many obstacles which she overcame with more determination than grace.

Jane was wheelchair bound for the first time at 5 and told she would never walk, proving the doctors wrong as she learned. Jane went on over the next 71 years to battle cancer three times. At one point, being diagnosed with Stage four breast cancer, upon seeing her oncologist while in remission she was tole that he never thought she would survive.

Jane had various jobs, more than she could count, at one point she was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard, and was proud of her time wearing combat boots and driving tankers. Later, she worked as the "town babysitter" in Hope Valley, Rhode Island in order to stay home to care for her own 4 children.

Jane's character was evident in everything she did. In her later years she was recognized around town for traveling on her red scooter sporting her red helmet, which she found great joy from.

Jane had the gift of gab, often just to hide the voices of silence - and often to the annoyance of her children and grandkids. She told tales of her past, with mad scientist family members and French ambassadors who died the day they were sworn in. She always spoke kindly and with reverence of her five brothers.

Known as Gammie to her seven grandchildren, she loved to make original sketches and cards for them adding her own unique character and charm. She would never show up empty handed to any event, and was good to make sure nothing was forgotten, even if this meant including a grill, stick of butter, oh and salt…. She never left the house without a salt shaker!

Jane was predeceased by her husband Robert Wallace Haubner III. She is survived by her daughter Megan Broneill and her husband Matthew of North Stonington. Her daughter Ashley Rogers and her husband Matthew of Mystic. Son Robert Wallace Haubner IV, of Bradford, RI. Daughter Kaitlin Haubner, of Stonington, CT. Her pride and joy, her reason for fighting as hard as she did was her grandchildren: Naomi Boord, Addyson, Tomas, & Charles Rogers, Harper & Finnley Broneill, and her cherished Isla Haubner.

Immediate family and friends will have a private celebration of life to honor Jane by releasing butterflies at Stonington Borough. In honor of Gammie, the family asks you to tell a tale to a friend or simply carry a salt shaker just in case.
