Jane Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Malloy & Son Funeral Home - Galveston on Feb. 17, 2026.
Jane Johnson, 77, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away Wednesday morning, February 11, 2026.

Jane was born in Waco, Texas, in 1948 to Evelyn Greenhill Taylor and Cecil Taylor and graduated from Waco High School. She moved with her first husband, Gary Johnson, to Brazoria County in 1970, where he worked at Dow Chemical. She was a stay-at-home mom until 1978, when she went to work for Congressman Bob Gammage.

She dedicated the next twenty-five years to social work, both at the United Way and Texas HHSC. Jane was active her entire adult life in local, state, and national politics. She attended several State Democratic Conventions and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1984. She door-knocked, stuffed envelopes, phone-banked, fundraised, and wrote more than a few letters to the editor. She was a proud "yellow dog" Democrat and fought tirelessly for causes close to her heart, never shying away from speaking her mind with sharp wit and candor. Jane was a member of the Sterling C. Robertson Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. After she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2006, she organized a support group for Galveston County when she discovered that one did not exist.

She met her second husband, Sam Munn, through her involvement with politics. Through their shared passion for grassroots organizing, they worked together to support various causes and candidates, Labor Union activities in Galveston County, and remained active in the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America.

Jane is survived by her children Dana Garden and husband Bill, Janna Garza and fiancé Allen Rothman, and Daniel Johnson and wife Sarah; her four grandchildren: Madison Frers, Macey Frers, Jonah Johnson, and Clark Johnson; and her first husband, Gary Johnson, of Angleton.

The family wishes to thank Jevonia Bankston and Regi Ojeda for their compassionate care during Jane's illness over the past several years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Cecil Taylor; her beloved best friend and sister, Lynn Pearson, of Waco, Texas; and her husband, Sam Munn, of Texas City.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jane's honor to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Malloy Funeral Home, 3028 Broadway, Galveston, TX 77550, on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Visitation at 2:00 pm, ceremony at 3:00 pm.
