Alta "Jane" King, age 102, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Hedrick Medical Center, Chillicothe, Missouri.
Jane was born the daughter of Gifford and Edna (Daugherty) Applebury on July 16, 1922, in Carroll County, Missouri. After high school graduation, she attended Chillicothe Business College for Bookkeeping. Jane was united in marriage to Hurless King on December 8, 1946 in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2002.
Jane was a member of the First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri. She enjoyed going to the YMCA every day. She loved to sew, knit and crochet items for her family. Jane worked as a bookkeeper and ran King's Ice Cream Store with her husband, Hurless. She also baked and decorated wedding cakes.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Martin of the home and Mary Totten (Paul) of Bloomfield, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jessica Totten of Centralia, Missouri and Amanda Schumaker of Clark, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Madison and Riley Schumaker of Clark, Missouri; one sister, Jean Plummer and husband Tommie of North Richland Hills, Texas; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Alvis Applebury and Henry Applebury; and son-in- law, Jack Martin.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Friends may call at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church and/or Grand River Area YMCA and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri, 64601. Online condolences may be made at www.lindleyfuneralhome.com.
