Jane A. Luther-Umstadter, 80 of Gaylord, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025, at The Brook.

Born on June 22, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Richard and Ethel (Murphy) Luther. She grew up in Flushing, Michigan where she graduated from high school, and later received her bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University.

Jane worked for many years in insurance sales. She was working for Blue Cross Blue Shield at their offices on 17th floor of building #1 of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Jane was a survivor of the terrorist attack that day, able to escape the building before its collapse.

Jane loved skiing, golfing, sailing, gardening and watching sports on television, especially Rutgers and Michigan football and New York Yankees baseball. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed hosting dinner parties for family and friends, and she enjoyed traveling the world.

Jane is survived by her sister, Cathy Luther of Washington; nephews, David (Nikki) Banaszak of Gaylord, Richard (Sara) Banaszak of Lewiston, Raif Bonner of Gaylord, and Sean (Lynn) Bonner of Rochester Hills; a niece, Muffy Luther of Washington; and several cousins; and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Umstadter in 2005; her parents, Richard and Ethel Luther; and sisters, Susan Banaszak and Patty Bonner.

In keeping with her wishes, her family will remember her privately. Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions to the family for a charity to be determined later, through Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 850 N. Center Avenue, Gaylord, MI 49735.
