Jane Scalli Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 29, 2024.
Jane B. Scalli was born June 13, 1943 in Wareham, MA. She went to be with the Lord on November 25, 2024 in Falmouth, MA after a courageous three-year battle against lung cancer. She was proudly an 8th generation Cape Codder and a lifelong Falmouthite.
Jane is survived by her son James Scalli and wife Mary (Moore) Scalli of Conroe, TX, her grandson Jonathan Scalli of Waco, TX. her sister Susan (Barstow) Thomas and her husband Paul Thomas of Granby, CT and their children, her brother David Barstow and his wife Lynnette (Bentzien) Barstow of Homes Beach, FL and their children, and many loyal and caring friends and extended family members.
Jane was predeceased by her husband Thomas F. Scalli, her father Elmer Barstow, and her mother Priscilla (Newell) Barstow.
Jane graduated from Lawrence (Falmouth) High School in 1961 and from Bay Path College in 1963 with an Associate's degree in their Executive Secretarial curriculum. After graduation she worked in Boston as an executive secretary before returning to Falmouth. After getting married, she left the business world and focused on raising a family. Though she always kept her skills up with contract work from home to help offset the family's living expenses. After her husband's premature passing she returned to the full-time work force first in management at the Pancake Man, and then for over twenty years at the Falmouth Cooperative Bank, which later became Rockland Trust Bank. She worked at various branches around Falmouth moving up from teller to branch manager and lastly working in customer service (where she thrived on solving customer's issues). She eventually retired in 2015. It was very difficult on her to leave her colleagues and customers who had also become close friends.
Jane was baptized and was a lifelong communicant at St. Barnabas Memorial Church. She led the Children's Sunday School for many years, served on the vestry, provided lay Eucharist services, coordinated the annual Christmas Bazaar, led the "Holy Hullers" and handled the accounting for the annual Strawberry festival. She was also active in the leadership of the League of Women Voters, and was on the Board of Directors at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Jane had quite a skill in choosing male suitors of character. Her twenty-year marriage to Tom Scalli, a long relationship with Richard "Bud" Kenney, and a subsequent long relationship with Kenneth Smith ("Ken the Man" as dubbed by her grandson). Sadly, all three relationships ended prematurely with their untimely deaths. Through it all she remained positive and leaned on her relationship with Jesus.
She will also be remembered for entertaining large groups of family and friends at her house off Maravista Ave and in the summer while on the boat. She did not have Italian ancestry by birth but became a very good Italian cook under the tutelage of her mother-in-law and sister-in-laws.
Her favorite times were with family and friends around the fire pit on her patio or with beach chairs arranged in a "Circle of Trust" at a Falmouth beach.
Even during her recent struggles, and right until the end, she kept her renowned wit. We know she is now giving us the "Queen's Wave" as she looks down at us.
A Memorial Service will be held at on January 25th at 11 AM at St. Barnabus Memorial Church, 91 Main St, Falmouth, with a reception to follow. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, if so inclined, memorial donations may be given to the St. Barnabas Memorial Church Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 203, Falmouth, MA 02541.
The family of Jane wishes to thank Dr. Devin McManus and staff, Dr. Liu and staff, the team from Privatus Care Solutions, the Hospice of Cape Cod team, and the attentive staff at Atria Woodbriar Place and Park for the loving care they provided during the final stages of Jane's amazing life.
