Jane Dorothea Schimpf, 86, of
North Port, Florida, formerly of
Maybrook, NY, passed away peacefully, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice, Florida, on December 21, 2025, after most courageously battling a long illness. Jane was born on June 29, 1939, in
Brooklyn, NY, to her late parents Louis A. Bartha, Sr., and Jane M. Bartha (nee Reilly). Jane is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Justice William "Bill" Schimpf; her adoring son, Thomas, her daughter-in-law Natali, and her cherished granddaughters, Isabella, Samantha, and Shylah. She is also survived by her brother Robert C. Bartha, and his wife Theresa of the Town of Wallkill, NY, Alfred W. Bartha of
Brooklyn, NY, and Louis A. Bartha, Jr., of Largo, Florida. Jane was a loving aunt to Barbara Jean Bartha Medlicott (Charles), and their children, Megan and Andrew; Karen Natrella (Anthony), and their children, Angelina and AJ; Caroline Bartha Blaschick (Andrew), Christina Bartha, and her late brother, Darren Bartha; Jennifer Hughes, and her children, Bobby, Kristen, Danny, and Terrance; Allison Bartha Ingrassia, and her children Taylor, McKenzie, and Madison; Christopher Bartha, and Liz Allman Seccuro (Mike), and their children Ava, and Leo; as well as numerous extended family members. Jane was predeceased in death, by her brother Joseph B. Bartha, her sister, Geraldine D. Bartha; and her brother-in-law Deacon Robert F. Schimpf, and his wife, Barbara. She was a graduate of Andries Hudde Junior High School, and St. Edmund Preparatory School, both in
Brooklyn, NY.
After receiving her formal education, Jane went on to work for the U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation in New York City, as an Investigator, researching and clearing the backgrounds of a number of our Space Astronauts. On a blind date, on New Year's Eve, December 1962, Jane met the man who would become the love of her life, and future husband, Bill. On September 12, 1964, they were wed, in Our Lady of Refuge R.C. Church, in
Brooklyn, NY, and honeymooned in Miami, Florida. Life was a bit tumultuous in the beginning; for Bill was stationed in
Trenton, NJ, but they saw it through, as newlyweds; eventually relocating back to
Brooklyn, NY, resettling into their careers, eventually buying a home there, after the birth of their son, Thomas; a blessing that truly made their lives complete. In early 1974, as Tom grew older, they saw a strong need to relocate to the upstate Village of
Maybrook, NY; a great place to live and raise a family, and where they resided for 51 years, until relocating in 2025, to the State of Florida, to be closer to their family. Jane became a full-time Mom to Tom, but also took on a position as a part-time School Crossing Guard, and eventually, given her background, became Village Court Clerk; a position she held for 22 years. She was also Deputy Village Clerk during that time. Upon her retirement, she received numerous accolades, awards and recognitions for her hard work, fairness and dedication; most notably from the NYS Assembly, and the NYS Senate. Meanwhile, during those years, Jane volunteered to teach religious education classes to the children of Maybrook, chaperoned village recreation program dances, and assisted with other village activities; always giving 100%+ of herself to everything she did. Thereafter, and for many years, she was the Treasurer of the Catholic Daughters of The Americas, Court Assumption, in Maybrook, while also managing to create and run several successful clothing drives for those in need. After being an active volunteer member of it's organization, on April 26, 2016, Jane was elected President of the Maybrook Golden Links Senior Club; a position she held until she had to relinquish it, due to health reasons on September 28, 2022. In 2019, she was presented with the Joseph E. Dineen Award for Volunteerism in the Village of Maybrook. On her 80th birthday, her family gave her a huge birthday party at Spruce Lodge, Montgomery, NY.
Jane possessed a gentle strength and inner determination; and truly loved everyone, with whom she made contact. A totally honest and fair minded soul, who always refused to tip the scales in someone's favor; to the detriment of others. She thoroughly loved and enjoyed her family, her senior club meetings, their various bus trips to Broadway plays, concerts, and occasionally playing a slot machine, Bingo, and so much more. While able, Jane and Bill, and the friends they cultivated over the years, travelled this great world of ours, on many cruise vacations; the family trips to Disneyworld, their overseas jaunts to Ireland, including tea with JFK's cousin, and England; Canada, Bermuda, The Bahama, Newfoundland, the Panama Canal, Columbia, Aruba, Western and Eastern Caribbean, Hawaii, California, The Carolinas, almost the entire East Coast, to include an audience with Richard Cardinal Cushing of Boston, and so much more. She will be forever missed by her family, and her many friends. May God Grant her Eternal Rest in Heaven.
