Jane Sweeney, age 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Country Court Nursing Home.

She was born on April 10, 1933, in Troy, New York to the late Thomas B. and Margaret J (Roach) Sweeney.

Jane enjoyed reading, especially mysteries, crocheting, crafting and loved her cats.

She was a retired teacher, with her final school district being Beekmantown Elementary School. Jane also volunteered at BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) adult education after retirement.

Jane is survived by her brother, Thomas (Terry) Sweeney; sister, Catherine Sweeney; nieces, Heather (Craig) Knotts, Brenda (Jeff) Moss, Molly (Jerry) Strider, Susan (Andy) Sweeney-Smith, Kathleen Sweeney; nephews, David (Patty) Sweeney, Sean (Andrea) Sweeney, Michael (Su) Sweeney and Timothy (Joanna) Sweeney.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Sweeney and a sister-in-law, Carol Sweeney.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 28, 2026 – 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Father James Farnan as Celebrant. Inurnment will be in St. Luke Cemetery in Danville.

The Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel is handling the arrangements for the family.
