Jane E. (McIlhenny) Weik, age 89, of
Sellersville, PA, formerly of Hilltown, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at The Community at Rockhill in Sellersville.
She was the beloved wife of John A. Weik for 27 years, until his death in 1989. Born in
Philadelphia, PA, Jane was the daughter of the late Robert A. McIlhenny and Bette (Walker) McIlhenny.
The second child of seven, Jane grew up in a caretaking role, helping with younger siblings, and then caring for her aging parents, in-laws, "Aunt" Grace Yaeck, and other relatives, including her beloved uncle, David McIlhenny, and his wife, Emma McIlhenny.
Jane was a proud graduate of Bensalem High School, Class of 1954, and then worked for a few years after high school to save the money to put herself through nursing school. She graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, Delaware in 1961.
Her calling was in psychiatric nursing, working at Byberry State Hospital, Eastern State Children's Hospital and for over 20 years Northwestern Institute of Psychiatry, in Fort Washington, PA, where she rose to House Supervisor. She also enjoyed stints as a school nurse when her children were young.
In her youth, she enjoyed a good softball game, and took every opportunity to attend and help with her kids' sporting events, band and choir activities, fundraisers, and field trips. For several years she created all the bus routes for her children's school and served on the Education Policy Committee.
Jane loved many things, including her family and extended family, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies, and a good cookout (preferably with family and extended family). Many picnics were held at the house in Hilltown that her husband, John, built in 1970. Jane would be seen, without fail, driving children around in the cart behind the riding mower. Family and friends, friends of friends, anyone was welcome at a picnic at Jane's house. The first time you attended, you were a guest. After that, you were family, with the related chores and clean up. But nobody left hungry, or without leftovers.
Jane retired in 2000, saying that she would go out with the millennium. She spent her active retirement years doing as much as she could with and for her grandchildren. The rest of us knew that we were no longer the cute ones and should just go to work and let her play. A lot of doughnuts and cupcakes were bought and she was a dollar store shopper extraordinaire. Goofy hats were paraded and silly songs were sung and another generation has the chance to pass on the oral tradition of "Black socks, they never get dirty…" To a true McIlhenny, no joke ever gets old. Born left-handed, Jane reminded any who knew her that being left-handed meant she was in her "right" mind.
She is survived by her three daughters: Heather W. Collins and her husband David of Chester, PA; Dorothy K. Weik-Hange and her husband Phil Hange of Perkasie, PA; and Heidi M. McElwee and her husband John of Pipersville, PA. She is also survived by her brother, Charles McIlhenny and his wife Elsie Jean of Perkasie, PA; her sisters, Beth E. McIlhenny of West Chester, PA, and Grace K. Michael and her husband Keith of West Chester, PA; and her five grandchildren, Meredith Collins, Elinor Reitz and her husband Max, Lillian McElwee, Ian McElwee, Andrew McElwee, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband John, Jane was preceded in death by her son, John C. Weik; her brother, Robert McIlhenny, and her sisters, Patricia A. Clungeon and Ruth B. McIlhenny.
Jane's last few years were rough, with dementia taking hold. But one of the most memorable parts of that journey was that Jane never actually "retired." She was convinced from day one that she was working at The Community at Rockhill, where she lived in Personal Care for the majority of her time there. She would give the nurses report, check the census, and make sure the office was covered. The wonderful staff there worked well with her, even issuing her a "paycheck" when she began to complain about all the work and no pay. Jane's family is immensely grateful for the compassionate care given to her during her years at Rockhill. Jane was passionate about caring for others, and believed heartily in Rockhill's Benevolent Fund. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Jane's memory to the Benevolent Fund at The Community at Rockhill, 3250 State Road,
Sellersville, PA 18960.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Internment will take place at Hilltown Baptist Church Lower Cemetery.
