Janelle Brumbelow Vincent
July 31, 1938 – September 1, 2025
Janelle Brumbelow Vincent, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 31, 1938, in Rockmart, Georgia, Janelle was the daughter of Luther Charles Brumbelow and Margaret Opal Haney Brumbelow. Her family later moved to Carrollton, Georgia, where they lived across from what is now the University of West Georgia. Her father, a night guard at the university, often brought home books from the library, sparking Janelle's lifelong love of reading and learning.
At just 14, Janelle left home to attend Berry College High School, graduating in 1956 with the honor of being named "Most Intelligent" by her peers and teachers. That same year, she began her studies at Berry College, where she met the love of her life, James Perry "Pete" Vincent. The two graduated together in 1960, and Janelle went on to complete her residency in Dietetics and Industrial Management at the Veterans Administration in Houston, Texas. Shortly after, she and Pete were married at the beautiful Berry College Chapel, beginning a remarkable 65-year journey together.
In 1963, they moved to Alvin, Texas, following Pete's career with NASA. Janelle began her own lifelong work of service after accepting the position of Food Service Director with the Alvin Independent School District. For more than 25 years, she dedicated herself to improving school nutrition and ensuring that generations of Alvin's children were well-fed and cared for. Her leadership, compassion, and tireless efforts left an enduring mark on the district and community.
Janelle also shared her passion for education as an instructor at Alvin Community College, mentoring students and inspiring them to pursue their dreams. A devoted member of South Park Baptist Church since 1963, she faithfully served her church family, teaching Sunday School for many years and living out her faith through quiet service.
Janelle will be remembered for her unwavering faith, sharp mind, generous heart, and the deep love she poured into her family and community.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, James "Pete" Vincent; her children: James "Jay" Perry Vincent, Jr. (Alice Meyers Vincent), Jill Vincent McDonald, and Julie Vincent Moseley (Robin Moseley); her cherished grandchildren: Jayne Claire Vincent, Abigail Victoria Vincent, Christopher Benjamin McDonald, Jessica Lynn McDonald, and Jeffrey Allen Ditto; and great-grandchildren Jase Beauregard Ditto and Jacob Owen Ditto (and their mother, Ashley Michelle Ditto). She is also survived by her sister, Alva Brumbelow Clark, the last of 14 siblings born to her mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Charles and Opal Margaret Haney Brumbelow, and siblings James Raymor Brumbelow, William Dean (W.D.) Brumbelow, Augustus Brown (A.B.) Brumbelow, Robert Floyd Brumbelow, Josephine Wallace, Forrest Haney Brumbelow, Sara Ellen Pike, and Charles Luther (Chuck) Brumbelow.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Pamela Stanich for the loving care she provided for Janelle during her final months.
A celebration of Janelle's life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at South Park Baptist Church, 1718 S. Johnson St., Alvin, TX 77511. In honor of Janelle's wishes, guests are encouraged to wear bright, casual clothing.
