Janet L. Bartels, affectionately known as Jan, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, in Eugene, Oregon. Born on March 12, 1953, in Omaha, Nebraska, to the late Robert and Veora (Brown) Bartels, Jan's life was a testament to her intelligence, generosity, and enduring passion for music.
A proud alumna of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Jan earned her Bachelor's degree in 1976. Her pursuit of excellence led her to the University of Minnesota, where she obtained a Master's of Business Administration in 1987, becoming a LifeTime Alumni Member. Jan's professional life was marked by a decade of dedication as a Quality Assurance Manager for infant feeding formula production, ensuring the well-being of countless children.
After her career, Jan embraced the role of homemaker, pouring her heart into her family and community. Her leadership shone brightly in her Minneapolis neighborhood association, where she served for decades, and her altruism was recognized by Second Harvest Heartland with an appreciation award for her tireless volunteerism.
Jan's journey alongside her beloved husband, Phillip Bohl, spanned 51 beautiful years. They were wed in a picturesque ceremony on April 26, 1983, in Wailua, Kauai, Hawaii. Their relationship was blessed by their shared love and passion for music, and by their loving son, Timothy Bohl of Eugene, Oregon. Jan is survived by Phil, Timothy, her daughter-in-law Laura Qi and her grandson Archer Qi Bohl (Archie). She also is survived by her sisters Marcia Blum and Linda Davis of Omaha, Nebraska, and her brother Steve Bartels of Cape Coral, Florida.
Jan's lifelong love for music was expressed with every note she played on her baby grand piano. Her appreciation for symphonic, jazz, and pop music was profound. Her adventurous spirit led her to enjoy national and international travel, tent camping and hiking, all of which she continued to do throughout her life. She also found great joy in tending to her garden, growing many beautiful trees, bushes, perennials and more!
Jan will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Her musical creativity, generosity, intelligence and caring nature left an impression on all who knew her. This melody will continue to play in the hearts of those she loved, a symphony of memories that will never fade.
Please join Janet's family in a Celebration of Life on Thursday, December 12th, 2024, at 1 pm, at Sunset Hills Funeral Home. The celebration will be followed by interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Janet's honor can be made to Second Harvest Heartland, 7101 Winnetka Avenue N, Brooklyn Park, MN 55428.
