Janet Diane Mathis Bennett, age 58 of Sylva NC, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023. She was born on June 8, 1965, in Jackson County, to the late Jimmy Joe and Mary Parris Mathis.
Janet was a caring and loving person who loved camping, fishing, and arts & crafts. She was a hard worker and loved to talk to everybody. She worked until she just couldn’t anymore.
She will be dearly missed by her loving children, Brittany Bennett Fleming (Michael), Brianna Bennett (Ty); sister, Peggy Mathis Luker, Betty Mathis Farmer (Alvin), Rose Mathis Chastain (Doug); brothers, Wayne Mathis (Tracy), James Mathis and very special sister-in-law, Brenda; granddaughter, Layla (whom she loved very much); several special nieces & nephews, and many wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends from 1:00–2:00PM on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Dr., Sylva NC, with a Funeral Service at 2:00PM. Revs. Tommy Ashe and Jason Bryson, officiating. Interment will follow at Mathis Cemetery, Broom Rd., Tuckasegee NC.
