Janet Dolores Blount, 59, passed away unexpectedly after a sudden illness June 14, 2024, in Downey, California. She was born in El Paso, Texas November 4, 1964. She was the youngest of three children born to James Blount, Sr. and the late Gladys Blount.
Janet grew up traveling the country and world extensively due to her father’s military career. She lived in Alaska, New Jersey, Texas, and Washington. She also lived in Germany for seven years where she traveled Europe and was fond of the school trips, particularly to the beaches of Mallorca, Spain to snorkel. She attended several schools in the United States and Europe, ultimately graduating from Kaiserslautern American High School in Kaiserslautern (K-Town) Germany in 1983. Janet went on to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). She became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA) while she was an undergraduate student. She graduated with a triple major and degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry in 1990.
Janet spent her professional career working as a chemist working in various laboratories. She worked at the El Paso Refinery, followed by the City of El Paso water treatment facility. She relocated the Los Angeles area in 1999, to work for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Janet worked as a chemist for the FDA for almost 25 years where she was highly regarded and respected by her peers. She was looking forward to retiring in the near future.
Janet enjoyed singing, she sang a solo at her high school graduation. She participated in her church and bell choirs before moving to California. Janet enjoyed traveling, snorkeling, and she was a fantastic baker and cook.
Janet was proceeded in death by her mother, Gladys Blount, and her grandparents. Left behind to cherish her memory are her father, James, Sr., her brother, James II, her sister, Gladys, and a nephew, Gregory. She is also survived by an aunt and uncle as well as numerous cousins and relatives.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast. Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, with a committal service to follow at 2:00 pm at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
