Janet Bliss Littleton Buck (1936–2025)
Janet Bliss Littleton Buck, 89, of
Grayson, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on July 8, 1936, in Carter County, Kentucky, to the late Carl Bliss and Ruth Strother Littleton.
A woman of deep faith, Janet was a devoted member of Gregoryville Christian Holiness Church, where she served for many years as both a youth leader and Sunday School teacher. Her commitment to her community was also evident in her active participation in local organizations. She served as PTA President for many years and was both a member and President of the Gregoryville/Carter County Homemakers. Janet was proud to be the first Kentucky State Extension Master Farm Homemaker ever selected from Carter County.
Janet's professional career as a tax expert spanned many years, during which she not only crunched numbers but also formed meaningful connections with people, which she cherished. Outside of her work, Janet loved the simple pleasures of life. She and her husband, Clifford, spent countless hours raising large gardens, canning produce, and making jams and jellies. One of Janet's proudest accomplishments was the many blue ribbons she earned at the local county fair each summer. She also spent much of her time tending to her beloved flower gardens, which were a source of great pride and joy.
In addition to her community service and professional life, Janet was an avid traveler with an adventurous spirit. This brave spirit led her to travel alone to Germany to visit her former exchange student and his family. She was extremely close to her sisters and talked to them every day. For many years, Janet, her sisters, and her mother would embark on a special "Sisters Trip," a tradition she cherished deeply. Together, they explored destinations in the South, Midwest and the East Coast. She was a wonderful storyteller and had many humorous tales to tell after these trips. She also traveled with her family to Hawaii, Florida, and the Smokey Mountains. Janet's love for travel was matched by her passion for music. She enjoyed attending concerts of all genres, from bluegrass and country to her all-time favorite-seeing Kenny Rogers perform live. Though Clifford wasn't always keen on the idea, Janet often convinced him to attend local concerts, creating memories they both treasured.
Janet's life was marked by her deep love for family. She is survived by her two sisters, Mary Sue Sparks, Linda (Ron) Arnett, brother-in-law Jim Williamson as well as her husband, Clifford, with whom she celebrated an incredible 72 years of marriage this past March. Together, they raised four boys: John (Linda), Jimmy (Sherry), Joe (Anna Khaksari), and Jeff (Murt Watts). In addition to her husband and children, Janet is survived by ten grandchildren-Brooke, Andrea, Sara, Andrew, Amber, Hunter, Koty, Shelby, Justin, and Kaden; honorary family member Uwe Webber her foreign exchange student as well as sixteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will deeply mourn the loss of their beloved matriarch.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Littleton, and her two sisters, Barbara Harris Marshall and Isabell Williamson. She was also preceded by her three brothers-in-law: Talmadge Harris, Earl Marshall, and Curtis Sparks.
A celebration of Janet's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson. Pastor Ron Arnett will officiate. Following the service, a burial will take place at Cribbs Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Gregoryville Christian Holiness Church or the Carter County Homemakers Scholarship Fund in Janet's memory.
