Janet Bunce Obituary
Janet Roberta Bunce, beloved daughter of Robert M. and Martha Bunce, passed away unexpectedly at Northern Dutchess Hospital on Friday, August 16, 2024. She was 89 years, born on June 18, 1935 in Englewood, New Jersey, the second of five daughters.
She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Whited of North Port, Florida, and Carolyn M. Vander Brink, of Orlando, Florida, a nephew, Barry Dean and a niece Deborah Sazama, both of Orlando, Florida, a cousin Ruth Paydon, of Rhinebeck, where Janet would spend summers with her at Valley Stream Farm, and she had many nieces and nephews locally and farther away. Also, she has an Aunt, Marion Bunce, residing in New Hampshire.
Janet had an interesting life; an honor-roll student for four years in high school in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey. Years later she held the respected position of Manager of Publishing Department of IBM, for 25 years, and transferred to new locations such as Nebraska, Hawaii, and Kentucky, finally returning to her favorite "home", near Rhinebeck, New York, with cousin Ruth nearby.
She was an avid gardener; her front yard would be bursting with flowers, as pretty as any in Better Homes and Gardens. Some of her happiest days were working as a volunteer at Montgomery Place and often brought home surplus plants to enjoy.
She loved the arts; classical music, paintings of well-known artists displayed throughout the house and many beautiful antiques.
Janet was a loyal member of the Red Hook Methodist Church and enjoyed the sermons presented weekly by Pastor Stephen Ernest.
Our beloved sister, Janet, always a smile on her face no matter what was going on around her. She was warm, kind, generous, hospitable, and laughed at your jokes.
If you care to make a donation in her name, she loved and supported the arbor day foundation.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, at a later date.
