Janet Cheesman, 82, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 10,2026, leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, devotion, and love.
Born on October 29,1943 in Jacksonville, Florida], she was the cherished daughter of the late Conrad and Clydie Acosta. Raised with strong values and a deep sense of compassion, she carried those lessons with her throughout her life.
She was the beloved wife of the late Gene L. Cheesman Sr., with whom she shared many devoted years of marriage until his passing. Together they built a home filled with warmth, resilience, enduring love, and lots of laughter. Janet was known for her love of arts and crafts, garage sales and the best brownies ever made.
Janet dedicated her life to providing laughter, love, and kindness to everyone she met. She was known for her gentle spirit, steady faith, the love of her husband, children and siblings, and unwavering support for those she loved.
She is survived by Daughter Kimberly Weathington (Randy), Son, Gene Cheesman (Kenya), and step grandson Gaylin Dewberry. She also leaves behind siblings Tommy Acosta (Elaine), Gary Acosta (Vicky), Conrad Acosta, and Gail Lennon, as well as many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Greta Deborah Acosta Brown as well as her sister-in-law Sandy Acosta, wife of Conrad Acosta.
A celebration of life is being planned and will be held later.
Though she has reunited with her beloved husband and parents, her memory will remain a guiding light to those who knew her. Her life was a testament to enduring love, quiet courage, and the strength of family.
