Janet (Janie) D. Chesney went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 8, 2025, at 12:51 p.m.
Janet was born on June 14, 1943, in Hannibal, Missouri, to Alfred and Roberta Dakan and was raised by her grandparents, Harry and Glenna Pulliam, whom she called Dad and Mom.
Throughout her childhood, you could usually find Janet on the back of her horse, Rex, either roaming the hills around Kinderhook, Illinois, competing in barrel racing, or sharing a bottle of soda (yes, she would drink out of the same bottle with the horse). When not on her horse or helping with chores around the farm, Janet loved to “get lost” in a good book. She was an avid reader her whole life and always had books nearby.
Janet attended Hull Elementary School and then West Pike High School, where she graduated on May 26, 1961. In 1963, Janet married Donald Page, and later they divorced. Together, Janet and Don had Tamara “Tammy” Page in 1965 and adopted John “Johnny” Page in 1970.
Her faith and family were at the very center of Janet's life, and she was adored by her family and friends. To her grandchildren and all their friends, she was known as “Mimi,” and soon she became “Mimi” to many people around town—kids and adults alike. She was always willing and ready to be anyone's stand-in grandma when needed. If you were loved by Janet, you were family to her.
When not immersed in a book or crossword puzzle, Janet enjoyed watching NASCAR, football, and the show COPS. She had a love for animals of all kinds, and over her lifetime she cared for many dogs, cats, goats, chickens, ducks, and other birds. Each one of her animals was named and loved as part of the family.
For the last eighteen months of her life, Janet resided at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas, where she made several close and meaningful friendships with both residents and staff. Many will remember her infectious laugh, which could often be heard across the building, and her ornery sense of humor as she teased and joked with the staff.
She leaves behind her daughter, Tammy Petterborg; granddaughters, Mandy (Ben) Frazier, Ashleigh (Robert) Jones, and Abby (Casey) Carswell; grandsons, Toby Petterborg and Matthew Petterborg; and nine great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her three half-brothers, Brad (Jane) Brinkman, Brice Brinkman, and Kirk Brinkman; and two sisters-in-law, Gloria (Joe) Brinkman and Sandy (Mike) Brinkman.
Janet was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Page; her parents and grandparents; and two half-brothers, Joe Brinkman and Mike Brinkman.
A come-and-go Celebration of Life will be held at Main Street Christian Church in Stockton, Kansas, on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 1–4 p.m. Janet's ashes will be spread privately with family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Janet's memory to the Humane Society of the High Plains - Hays or American Cancer Society – for Pancreatic Cancer and may be sent to Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N 1st Street, Stockton, Kansas 67669.
