Janet Cox Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pennington Funeral Home - San Marcos on Apr. 30, 2024.
Janet Sprake was born on January 25, 1945, in Kansas City, Mo. Early in her life, she and her parents moved to DeKalb, Mo. where she became a farm girl, very active in 4-H with cooking and sewing competitions when not helping her dad driving a tobacco or grain truck in the field. She was a drum major and accomplished clarinet player in high school. Later she moved to Austin, TX, met and married Gene Cox, through good times and bad their love for each other never wavered. They raised two children, Mike and Jennifer.
Whether it be delicate hand painting of ceramic Christmas ornaments, sewing, crocheting, cheering for her Longhorns (even the replays), or other tasks with her beloved such as wiring a house or gophering to repair a dump truck, she did it with the most joy and vigor she could muster. She found happiness in just being with Gene, whether competing on a bowling team or at a quiet dinner with their two best friends. She loved living in the country and never hesitated in building fences, doctoring an animal, especially her favorite dog Mo-Mo when she would get bitten by rattlesnakes or caring for baby calves. Watching the wildlife was a real treasure, especially when it came to the hummingbirds.
After retirement she focused her life on her friends and caring for Gene. She also never said no to spending time with her grandkids, Colton, Rebecca, Justin and Zachary. She would beam with pride to talk about them any chance she could. Having them sleep over to bake cookies or watch a Disney movie was a thrill.
Despite suffering a major stroke that took her ability to talk and caused hemi-paralysis, she never expressed sorrow or anger over it. She just went about figuring out how to complete the task, such as one-handed cross-stitch. While she couldn't be understood very well, she would give everyone a smile and the twinkle in her eye that told the person "I am happy to see you!!"
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, 10:00am at Memory Lawn Memorial Park, 19106 San Marcos Hwy., San Marcos, Texas.
Sending a dove to heaven with
a parcel on its wings.
Be careful when you open it,
It's full of special things.
A million and one kisses,
wrapped in a million hugs,
to say how much we miss you
and to send you all our love.
We hold you in our hearts,
and there you will remain,
to walk with us through life
Until we see you again.
