Janet L. Dargitz, 90, of State College, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born April 20, 1935, in Lewistown, Montana she was the daughter of the late Chauncey R. and Helen J. Brown Fowler. On March 31, 1962 she married Gale L. Dargitz, who predeceased her in 1992.

She is survived by her nephew, Brent Anderson.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased in death by daughter, Anne Dargitz in 2018; son, Scott Dargitz in 2006; sister, Ann Anderson in 2000 and her dedicated partner, Karl G. Stoedefalke in 2023.

Janet was a graduate of Lewistown High School, Montana and the University of Montana earning a bachelor's in Elementary Education in 1957. She taught in Washington and Germany before she and Gale moved to State College where she co-founded and co-directed the Park Forest Montessori School.

Janet was a 50 year member of the P.E.O. where she belonged to both Chapter AD and Chapter S of State College. From 1991-1992 she served as president of the P.E.O. Pennsylvania State Chapter. Janet remained an active member of the Univ. of Montana Alumni and was instrumental in establishing several scholarships including a UM Delta Gamma elementary education scholarship. She was also a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Ave., State College followed by a memorial service at 11:00am with Reverend Jeffrey A. Packard officiating.

Janet will be laid to rest with her family in the Union Cemetery, Blanchard, MI at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in remembrance of Janet may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and to P.E.O. International Foundation, Janet Fowler Dargitz, 3700 Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA 50312 or at https://www.peointernational.org.
