Janet Espenschied, age 82, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2024 in Ohio’s Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia, after of period of declining health.
Born in Springfield, Ohio on June 27, 1942, Janet was a daughter to the late Conrad and Donna (Call) Butcher.
She was a 1965 graduate of The Ohio State University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education. After graduation she taught for three years then worked for five years at the Tuscarawas Human Services Department. However, her greatest joy was the years she was a homemaker raising her children.
Janet was active in 4-H serving as a judge for sewing and clothing. She was also a long-time member of the Jerusalem Church. Janet was a teacher in the church as well as active in all areas of the church ministry.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Espenschied, whom she married on July 9, 1966; her daughter, Jill (Daniel) Haugh of New Philadelphia; son, Jeff (Stephanie) Espenschied of Columbus; grandchildren, Allyssa Haugh, Hunter (Brook Gill) Haugh, Thomas Espenschied, and Elizabeth Espenschied; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn (Jim) Cullen, and Barabara Reuwee; brother, John Butcher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM in Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Rd, New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Janet’s life will begin in the church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
