Janet A. Genz, 64, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, at home surrounded by her family in Dubuque.

Friends and family may visit on Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 4 to 6 pm at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. A Funeral Service will be held at 6 at the funeral home with Pastor Jason Frederick officiating.

Janet was born on September 26, 1960, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Willard and Joanne (Berg) Lindenberg. She graduated from Northeast Iowa Technical Institute as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She married Donald J. Genz on December 17, 1983, in Dubuque.

Janet was the true definition of a nurse. She had a giving heart and lived a life full of kindness. She worked at Sunnycrest Manor for more than 25 years and was a member of Rockdale United Methodist Church. Janet was a talented seamstress. She loved music and would often sing along to her favorite songs. She was a passionate sports fan, watching and attending Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes games with her husband and son. Janet loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She would often travel to watch their sports games and looked forward to their yearly visit in the summer. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She loved giving gifts to everyone and had presents piled almost as high as the tree. Janet graciously fought cancer for 13 years.

Janet is survived by her husband Don; children Kelli (John) Jones, Kathi (Nathan) Riemer, and Peter Genz; grandchildren Jill, Erik, Logan, Mason, and Ella; sisters Luanne Lindenberg, Sandi Lindenberg, and Cindi Lindenberg; sisters-in-law Sharon Koster, Jane (Jim) Bakey, Julie (Tom) McDonald, and Patricia (Todd) Miller; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Willard and Joanne Lindenberg, granddaughter Katie, a brother Robert Willard in infancy, parents-in-law Joseph and Ann Genz, sisters-in-law Kim Genz, Joan Genz, and Jennifer Skahill, and brother-in-law Bob Koster.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Eric Engelman, Dr. Sara Loetscher, the staff of Mercy Cancer Center and University of Iowa Cancer Center, and Hospice of Dubuque.
