It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Kamp on September 25, 2024, at the age of 83 in Sarasota, Florida.
Born on February 27, 1941, in Norwalk, CT, the daughter of Richard Charles Pitnam Harris and Janet Livingston Lohr, Jean graduated from Connecticut College for Women with a degree in French Literature.
Jean was very much an artist and creative; she buoyed her leisure-time passions with her work choices throughout her lifetime: painting, drawing, cooking, calligraphy, and plants. She shared her extensive creative talents with family and friends, gifting wonderful food, artwork, candles, collages, tie-dye, and calligraphy. Her love of art and cooking reinforced by frequent classes, including a Chinese cooking class. Her favorite cooking shows were the Galloping Gourmet and The French Chef. She often used the talents she gained to cook with her children, sharing her knowledge and training.
Jean loved caring for plants, especially Bonsai, succulents, and orchids. She retired from the Sarasota Garden Club after 14 years surrounded by the creativity she loved. Jean also loved cats and was mom to many over the years.
We miss her, especially at family get-togethers, where her good nature, laughs and delightful funny faces brought light and love to all. We remember her, lovingly, when we see the artwork she created over her lifetime.
She is survived by life partner and soul mate Jack J. Guio of Sarasota, her sister, Susan Ann Griffin of Richmond, VA, son Baron (Rita) Kamp of Perry, FL, daughter Bonnie (Kenneth) Bowers of Holmes Beach, grandson Lane Bowers of Boynton Beach, nephew Christoper (Melissa) Griffin, great-niece Chloe and great-nephew Cade Griffin of Marietta, GA.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, please leave a memory on the Tribute Wall or Donate to the Sarasota Garden Club.
