On Friday April 18, 2025, Janet Corene Lang of Olathe, KS, peacefully passed away with her children and family by her side. Janet was born in Melvern, KS, on July 12, 1937, to Heber and Pauline (Dugger) Johansen. She spent her school years helping out on the farm alongside her brothers. After graduation, she married the love of her life, George Lang. Together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage before his passing.
After marrying George, they lived in Topeka, KS before settling in Olathe, where they raised five children: Mike, Randy, Joyce, Debbie and Pam-lovingly known as “The Lang Kids.” Janet devoted her life to raising her children and becoming a second mom to many kids in the neighborhood. When she wasn’t caring for her own family, she could often be found working in the kitchen of the local school and Head Start Program.
She had a deep love for gardening and flowers and spent countless summer hours tending to her blooms and caring for her small garden. Her backyard was always full of life, with grandkids and great-grandkids playfully splashing in her pool. There was never a time you could visit her home without being greeted with a warm smile and a homemade cookie from her cookie jar. She will always be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and the meals she lovingly prepared that filled everyone’s hearts and bellies. Some of her most cherished dishes included her lemon pudding cake, homemade noodles, oatmeal cookies, her famous “Grandma Lang Dip” and of course, her unforgettable enchiladas.
Janet was preceded in death by husband George; her parents; two brothers Roy Johansen and Stacy Johansen. She leaves behind five children Mike (Lori) Lang of Overland Park, KS, Randy (Theresa) Lang of Gardner KS, Joyce (Scott) Garman of Wellsville KS, Debbie Underwood of Olathe, KS, and Pam (Chuck) Lockey of Gardner, KS; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
