Janet Lynn Lester, 75, of Brooks, KY, passed away on July 12, 2025, at her daughter's home in the early morning hours surrounded by loved ones.
Janet was born on June 13, 1950, in Louisville, KY, to Earl and Beatrice Brooks Rietl.
Our beloved Mamaw was a devoted wife and homemaker who adored her countryside home and found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She was a steady, loving presence, always ready with a listening ear and comforting words, known by many as their personal therapist and trusted confidant. Her family could always count on being lovingly "roped into" giving her a foot massage or joining her for countless rounds of board games and Yahtzee. She loved spending weekends at yard sales with her favorite sidekick or sitting on the back porch in her swing, enjoying the fresh air. Mamaw had a soft spot for slow mornings with hot chocolate and Westerns, and her ramen noodles remain a cherished delicacy among her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 33 years, Larry Lester; her brothers, Bennie Rietl (Mary) and Roger Rietl; and her grandchildren, Cody Lester and Grace Lester.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Karen Bramer (Charles), and her sons, Matthew Lester and Chris Lester (Brittany); her grandchildren, Anthony Miller (Courtney), Crissa Miller, Casadi Bramer, Justin Lester (Brandy), Makayla Lester, Brooklyn Lester, Atley Lester, Annie Lester, and Greyson Lester; her brothers, Gary Rietl and Alan Rietl; her sister, Kathleen Herling (Harry); and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 12:00 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with interment in Mt. Eden Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 2:00 until 8:00 and on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 9:00 until the time of service.
