Dannie Joe Lester

Dannie Joe Lester, 85, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 11:51 AM Tuesday Oct. 15, 2024 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 2, 1939 in Macomb, Illinois to Francis Lloyd and Verna (Howe) Lester. He is survived by his children, Todd (Ann) Lester of Macomb, Illinois, Dr. Jeffrey Lester of Yuma Arizona, and Danna Green of Greenwood, Indiana; and 9 grandchildren; Alyssa & Nicole Lester; Lauryn, Kasie, Emme and Elle Lester; and Connor, Kelsey and Maddie Green. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Duane and Kendall Lester. Dannie served in the United States Air Force from 1957-1961. He enjoyed trips to Alaska as a young man and purchasing one of the first 1965 Ford Mustangs sold in Macomb. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, enjoyed NASCAR racing and anything electronic. He operated a HAM radio for many years. Dannie loved to garden and enjoyed raising Christmas trees and sold them to many people in the Avon area for several years. His children feel blessed to have inherited his strong work ethic as Dannie was recognized many years for perfect attendance at Maytag Corporation, where he worked for approximately 40 years, less a few he left to help his father build homes in and around the Macomb area. Graveside Services will be at 11 AM Friday Oct. 25, 2024 at Good Hope Cemetery. Rev. A. Lee Unger will officiate. Cremation has been accorded. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Humane Society of McDonough County Building Fund. Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
