Janet Marie Loeppke (née Tope), 81, of Lakin, KS, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, with family at her side.
Born on December 1, 1943, to George and Ethel (Roberts) Tope, Janet graduated from Kendall High School in 1961. Not long after, fate (and an unfortunate case of athlete's foot) led her to meet the love of her life, Lanny Loeppke, who happened to be in the same hospital room with Janet's grandad. That unexpected meeting turned into 56 years of love, laughter, raising six children, and just enough stubbornness to keep things interesting.
Janet found joy in simple pleasures such as gardening, flowers, camping with family, and traveling. She loved craft shows, both as a visitor and a vendor, selling jewelry alongside her mother-in-law Beatrice and later continuing the tradition with her own creations. She and Lanny worked in the transportation department for USD 215, safely transporting countless children over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lanny; one daughter, Laura Kerns; parents, George and Ethel Tope; two brothers, John and Boone Tope; and in-laws, Harlan and Beatrice Loeppke.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Sheila Maxfield (Dan); sons, Stacy Loeppke, Lane Loeppke (Larrilee), Darren Loeppke (Vonda), and Wade Loeppke (Lisa); along with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed, but her love, creativity, and unwavering spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Visitation will take place Friday February 28, 2025 from 12:00 (Noon) until 8:00 pm and Saturday March 1, 2025 from 9:00 am until service time both at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday March 1, 2025 at the Lakin Cemetery with Rev. Elizabeth Winger Young officiating. The family suggests memorials to the Janet Loeppke Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
