Janet stopped working at the phone company to start a family after she got married. She used her money from phone company to buy a lot and build a home in Menomonee Falls.
She excelled at being a homemaker, which she loved. She raised 3 wildly different boys, chauffeuring them to swim lessons, band practice, boy scouts and many various things they wanted to do. She loved to sew and made her own clothes, and clothing for other family members. She would sew Christmas outfits for her grandkids. She excelled at sewing and would later work for a friend who was an interior designer. She used the money she made to go on trips. She loved to travel and her favorite places were Door Co., the Beacons in Minocqua and Marquette, MI to visit her lifelong friend Judy. She was very proud of the WI State Park system and most likely had been to everyone at least once. She enjoyed the outdoors. Dick and her would go biking or hiking when it was warm and X Country skiing in winter. She always had a vegetable garden and fruit trees. She was an avid gardener and had flower beds everywhere. She was very proud of her home and yard and when she found out that a lawyer had purchased the farm next to the house and was planning to have the zoning changed so he could see it to Walmart to build a distribution center she went into action. She organized the neighbors and had petitions signed to take to the village board. For over 2 years she attended every board meeting. The lawyer would write editorials in the local paper accusing her of wanting her own private park and saying many nasty things about her. Dick was horrified when one day the police showed up to give her a restraining order to not set foot on the property. Most people would have quit, but not her. Walmart eventually decided to build somewhere else. Most of all she enjoyed being a mom, grandma and great-grandma. She would have one grandchild spend a week with her and Dick for their special time with them. She liked going to all their school programs even though it was a 2 hour drive. She was a faithful and loving wife to Dick and they did many wonderful things together. She loved to get together with friends and host parties. She would cook and bake for days before. She would have everything planned and written out and was always over organized. Many people that knew her, knew about her Butterhorns. This had to be her signature dish. Her other signature dish was her lasagna. She hated it, but the family loved it, especially the grand kids. She was one of the last charter members of her church and was very active in it. She would teach Bible Class, sing in the choir, play in the Bell Choir, which she really enjoyed and of course make Butterhorns.
