Janet Elizabeth Martha Borde Nisbett, was born on July 8, 1934 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, to Cecil Borde and Una Carter Borde. She was a brilliant student in business studies, which served her well in her calling as an exemplary homemaker over the years.
In the 60s Janet initially migrated to Canada, continued on to the US, and then eventually settled in Bermuda, where she met and married David Nisbett (deceased March 2022). Her relentless pride in her country, her eagerness to share her culture, and her unsparing hospitality, earned her the title of de facto ambassador of Trinidad and Tobago to Bermuda. In fact, whenever Trinidad and Tobago officials visited Bermuda, Janet's house was an obligatory stop on the itinerary.
In 1985, Janet and David made Jacksonville their home in search of enhanced opportunities for their children. It was a move that required tremendous courage, strength, and fearlessness – but they did it, without looking back!
Janet was a woman of wise words, relishing in the deeper meanings of parables and proverbs, which she handed down to her children. A favorite saying of hers that is truly reflective of her life is: "Perseverance seldom fails". She is remembered as a fun-loving and most gracious host with an infectious laughter, as a kind and compassionate human being, and also for her strength, resilience, tenacity and unwavering faith.
Janet was predeceased by her husband, David Nisbett, her parents Cecil Borde and Una Borde, her brothers Carl Borde, Hugh Borde, Cecil Borde jr., her sisters Yvonne Ford, Una Joseph, Barbara Loregnard, Marietta Paris, and her grandson Khelan Hosang. Her memory remains cherished by her loving children Denise (Trinidad) Harold "Junior" (Toronto) Oswald (Trinidad), Oswin "Jerome" (Deborah) (Trinidad) Curtis (Suzanne) (NY) Chantal (GA), Kyle (Erika) (Jacksonville); her sister Imelda Borde-Bruce; grandchildren Nyasha, Zakiya, Adana, Dominic, Shine, Deja, Curt, Talli, Andwelae, Samuel; great grandchildren Janae, Kyrie, Brandon; and a host of loving nieces nephews cousins and dear friends.
