Janet Perry Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center on Sep. 2, 2025.
Janet Lee Perry, 88, of Stilesville, Indiana, affectionately known to many as "Jan," passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 30th, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following a short illness.
She was born on Sunday, March 14th, 1937, in Dayton, Ohio, one of two daughters to the late Robert and Marthalie E. (Manuel) Slorp. On November 3rd, 1957, Jan married the love of her life, Norman Lee Perry, and together they shared nearly 68 wonderful years of marriage.
Jan spent nearly her entire life in Hendricks County, where she and Norman raised their family and attended Hazelwood Christian Church. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jan found joy in life's simple pleasures-camping, taking car rides with Norman, bird watching, gardening, and simply being outdoors.
Jan's career was spent largely in law enforcement. She served as a police officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department before concluding her career at the Indiana State Capitol building in downtown Indianapolis. After retiring, Jan continued her service to others in a new way-working in the cafeteria at Mill Creek East Elementary School in Clayton, Indiana, where she loved being close to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Norman Perry of Stilesville, IN; four sons, Greg Perry of Stilesville, IN, Jeff Perry of Tennessee, Todd Perry of Danville, IN, and Gary (wife, Monica) Perry of Monrovia, IN; five beloved grandchildren, Lance Simpson, Emma and Grace Perry, and Taylor and Savannah Whitaker; and one great-grandchild, Eli Simpson.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kay Stegman.
Jan will be remembered for her strength, devotion to her family, and the love she poured into all she did.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, September 5th, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Neal & Summers Funeral Home in Martinsville. In honoring Jan's wishes, her earthly remains will be cremated following the visitation.
