Margie Guy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center on Feb. 27, 2026.
Margie Elaine Guy, age 72, of Paragon, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 3:20 p.m. at Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.

Margie was born on Sunday, November 22, 1953, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to James Linden and Juanita (Burden) Barnett. She graduated from Martinsville High School with the Class of 1972. Shortly after graduation, she returned to Kentucky, where she attended beauty school and worked as a hairdresser until 1976.

In 1976, Margie moved back to Morgan County, Indiana, where she would live the remainder of her life. That same year, she and a friend opened Guys & Gals Hair Salon in Paragon, Indiana. She continued her work as a hairdresser until 1982, when she joined her family at Barnett Lumber in Paragon, serving as a secretary until 1991. She then worked in the office for Fleener Construction before later gaining employment with PepsiCo in Plainfield, Indiana, working there for approximately ten years. After taking a few years off to spend more time spoiling her grandchildren, Margie concluded her working career at Tempur Sealy in Plainfield in 2022, when her health began to fail.

Margie battled kidney disease for many years, but it never kept her from enjoying life. She loved traveling, especially trips to the mountains, shopping, and watching nearly any sporting event. She was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts…or, as she would say, Patrick Mahomes and Peyton Manning. More recently, she became especially fond of Archie Manning and college football.

Margie never missed any of her grandchildren's sporting or extracurricular events and often accompanied them to their friends' games as well. She could frequently be found in the bleachers with binoculars, making sure she didn't miss even her grandson's facial expressions during a football game. She loved taking her grandchildren on vacation, going to the pool daily during their summer breaks, and creating unforgettable memories with them. "Christmas with Gammie was always exciting and full of laughs," her grandchildren shared. "She filled bags with the most random gifts every year just to see our reactions." Margie spoke her mind and was known for being loyal, stubborn, loving, and just a tad mischievous.

She is survived by her loving husband, who selflessly and devotedly cared for her for several years, John Thomas Guy of Paragon, Indiana; her pride and joy, daughter Toni Galyan of Martinsville, Indiana; her beloved grandchildren, Seth, Sydney, and Holly Galyan; her sister, Charlotte (husband, David) Schwab of Martinsville, Indiana; her brother, Allen Barnett of Martinsville, Indiana; and her sister-in-law, Carol Barnett of Kentucky.

Along with her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her brother, James "JP" Barnett; her sister, Paula Cramer; and her son-in-law, Shad Galyan.

Margie's wishes for cremation will be honored, and her family will be hosting a private celebration of her life. Family and friends are encouraged to share fond memories and words of condolence online at www.nealandsummers.com
