Janet S. Pope

Janet Stanbridge Pope, 94, passed into eternal glory on October 15, 2024, in Saint Augustine,
FL. Janet was born on August 18, 1930, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She married Gerald G.
Pope in 1949, shortly before the Korean War. Janet is preceded by her husband of 39 years,
Gerald "Jerry" G. Pope, a career military officer who served in the United States Army. Their
inseparable marriage carried them through three world conflicts: WWII, Korea, and several tours
in the Vietnam War. She is also preceded by her two sisters, Edith, and Carol.
Janet spent much of her adult life traveling with her husband on active duty, raising her family in
the United States and the European theater. She loved to travel and spend time with her family.
Many temporary duty assignments in the military allowed her to travel and see the world. She
loved seeing new places. She was also highly organized and reliable. She epitomized the perfect
mother while being a loving and devoted spouse. Janet was a member of Grace Community
Church, where she recently served in Vacation Bible School in June 2024. She loved her home
church and pastor, Dr. Clarence Blaylock.
She leaves five children, Jerryann Pope, Richard Pope, Lisa Baldwin, Mark Pope, and Denise
Black. She also leaves ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her impact on her family
and friends stands the test of time. She was a true blessing to all who knew her.
Celebration of Life Service: October 18, 2024, at Grace Community Church, located at 7040 U.
S. 1 North, St. Augustine, FL. 32095.
Family and Friends Visitation will be from 11:00-12:00 PM.
Service begins at 12:00-1:00 PM.
Internment service will be at 2:00 PM at Craig Memorial Park, located at 2600 Old Moultrie Rd.,
St. Augustine, FL. 32086.
A reception will be held at 3:00 PM back at Grace Community Church. All are invited.
The family requests all memorial gifts be directed to Grace Community Church.
