Janet Susan Richards, aged 70, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 2, 2025, at her beloved family cottage near Johannesburg Michigan.
She was born on May 14, 1955, in Trenton, Michigan to the late Don and Lois (Litchfield) Black. On November 27, 1976, Janet married the love of her life Allen Richards in Marine City, Michigan and they spent nearly every day together for the next 49 years.
She was a homemaker for most of her life and enjoyed crafting, quilting, sewing, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and organizing holiday get-togethers, particularly Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, and family reunion. She spent countless hours planning and preparing to make sure they were very special. She felt very passionate about feeding others, especially those in need.
Janet's greatest role was being a Grammy to her nine grandkids (and 1 great granddaughter). They spent much time at Grammy and Grampy's house and developed a special and unique bond with each of them. Janet will be greatly missed but will live on through special memories in all of our hearts forever.
She is survived by her adoring husband Allen and fur baby, Doodles; father-in-law, LeRoy Richards; children, Shannon (Bill) Berg, Michele (Chris) Street, and Jason (Jenna) Richards; special nephew, Don Robb; grandchildren, Jordan (Callaway),and Addison; , Casey (Gary), Kennedy, Joey, Christopher, Jason, Jenna, and Lexus; great granddaughter, Everly; siblings, Diane Holthous, Dawn Schrader, Kim (Jerry) Lindke, Bill (Laura) Black, Dale(Julie) Black; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Sharon) Richards, John (Karin) Richards, Chris (LuAnn) Richards; sisters-in-law, Sheila (Ed) Olszewski, Karen Richards; and many other nieces and nephews and many special friends. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law, Marlene Richards; brothers-in-law, Larry Schrader and Robbie Richards.
The family will be hosting a celebration of life on Sunday July 13th from 12:00 – 5:00 PM at 8870 Field Rd Clay, MI 48001.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Down River Bread of Life Nutrition Center, 156 South William, Marine City, MI, 48039, in Janet Richard’s memory. She would definitely not want money spent on flowers for her, that could go to help those in need.
