July 17, 1938 - March 14, 2025
Janet "Judy" Joy Shutts, age 86, of Mattoon, IL, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center surrounded by friends and family.
Graveside services honoring her life will take place at 1 p.m., on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Beals Cemetery, in Trilla, with Bob Hill officiating. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Judy was born on July 17, 1938, in Johnstown, IL, the daughter of Forrest Perry Brown and Eva Juanita (Zike) Brown. She married Charles Robert Shutts in February of 1964. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2012.
Survivors include her daughter, Tina Joy Shutts of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren: Michael Robert (Samantha) Shutts of Marshall, IL, Ava Joy Shutts of Mattoon, IL, and Elizabeth (Doug) Barden of Furlong, PA; and great-grandchildren: Alex, Jadin, Kaylynn, and Makayla.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband; parents; and siblings: Jerry Brown, Helen Blackley, Rex Brown, Max Brown, and Bob Brown.
Judy had humble beginnings. She was born at home during the end of the Great Depression. Judy was a polio survivor, and she would encourage everyone to get vaccinated. She was unable to have children, so they adopted their daughter Tina when she was only 8 days old. Judy enjoyed being a mother and was a stay-at-home mom, who also babysat Michelle and Dawn. She was also a caregiver for her mom, Eva. Judy spent time working at Kraft, and she later retired from General Electric in October of 1994. Judy will be remembered for her strength; she had been on dialysis for the last 13 years before her passing. Judy will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
